During the 139th session of the Joint Institute for Nuclear Research (JINR) Academic Council, held on 19–20 February 2026 at the House of International Conferences, Prof. Michel Spiro received the prestigious Oganesson Prize in recognition of his outstanding contributions to high-energy and nuclear physics, as well as his passionate leadership in advancing global initiatives supporting fundamental science.

The Academic Council session brought together international participants to review the latest scientific achievements of JINR and discuss future research directions. As part of the program, several distinguished awards were presented to scientists whose work has significantly advanced their fields.

In addition to the Oganesson Prize, Prof. Spiro was formally honored as an Honorary Doctor of JINR during a solemn ceremony, highlighting his scientific achievements and longstanding commitment to international collaboration in physics.

Prof. Spiro’s work has played a central role in strengthening global cooperation in fundamental physics and promoting the importance of basic science within the international scientific community.
