UNESCO has officially released the final report on the International Year of Quantum Science and Technology 2025 (IYQ2025), highlighting the global initiatives, collaborations, and activities carried out throughout the year to celebrate 100 years of quantum mechanics and promote the societal relevance of quantum science.
IUPAP participated in IYQ2025 as an official partner, contributing to several international initiatives focused on public engagement, science diplomacy, and international cooperation in physics.
Among the activities highlighted in the report are the IUPAP–UNESCO International Colloquia on Physics for Society, a series of online events connecting frontier quantum research with societal challenges, education, innovation, and global cooperation. The colloquia featured leading scientists and Nobel Laureates, including Anne L’Huillier, Alain Aspect, and William D. Phillips, and engaged thousands of participants worldwide.
The report also features the IUPAP – IYQ2025 International Photo Contest, launched to showcase the beauty and global impact of quantum science through photography and scientific imagery. The contest received submissions from around the world and was recognized as an official IYQ2025 Global Event.
The final report provides a broad overview of the global impact of IYQ2025 and emphasizes the importance of ensuring equitable access to quantum science, education, and research opportunities worldwide.
