The International Committee for Future Accelerators (ICFA) was created by the International Union of Pure and Applied Physics (IUPAP) in 1976 in Tbilisi, Georgia, as Working Group 1 (WG1), to facilitate international collaboration in the construction and use of accelerators for high-energy physics.
At the 34th IUPAP General Assembly, held in October 2025, ICFA was transformed from a Working Group into a Standing Committee under C11 – Commission on Particles and Fields, continuing its work to foster international collaboration in the field.
