The Gravitational Wave International Committee (GWIC) was created by the International Union of Pure and Applied Physics (IUPAP) in 1997 as Working Group 11 (WG11) to facilitate international collaboration and cooperation in the construction, operation and use of the major gravitational-wave detection facilities worldwide.

At the 34th IUPAP General Assembly, held in October 2025, GWIC was transformed from a Working Group into a Standing Committee. It is jointly under C4 – Astroparticle Physics and C19 – Astrophysics, with liaison with AC2 – International Commission on General Relativity and Gravitation.
