The IUPAP Council and Commission Chairs (C&CC) unanimously approved the establishment of an award to recognize those who have given long and meritorious service to the Union but have not been President of IUPAP or Chair of a Commission or working group, understanding by long, more than 9 years of service and by meritorious, service that has significantly helped IUPAP to achieve and sustain its mission.
The first laureates of the award were selected at the IUPAP’s C&CC meeting in October, 2020. They are: Jackie Beamon-Kiene, Willem van Oers, Terrance J. Kessler and Luis Viña. The Union is indebted to all of them for their generosity and hard work.

The IUPAP Council and Commission Chairs decided to name the award after Henri Abraham who was IUPAP’s Secretary General for nine years contributing selflessly to the advancement of the Union. A brief biography of Henri Abraham and descriptions of the four awardees are included in the March Newsletter of the IUPAP.
